Should we increase the driving age??
Should we be taking the freedom of driving from our teenagers? No, driving helps teens learn new responsibilities and gives them independence that they would not otherwise get. If the legal driving age gets raised teenagers will have to rely on their parents or other adults to get them around. Driving is an important part of life for most people and we do not always have others to rely on to get somewhere. Teenagers are more likely going to break the law driving underage if the legal driving age is raised and will be more likely to keep committing crimes.
There are a lot of responsibilities that a teenager learns while driving that they might not learn anywhere else. While driving, the driver needs to respect the rules to avoid having accidents that could harm themselves or others. If a driver ignores the rules and go straight through an intersection they could cause a fatal crash. This responsibility helps to develop teenagers into adults and help them in the future.
The independence a teenager gets from being allowed to drive means they do not have to rely on their parents or others. If a teenager is able to drive they can get themselves to and from sports or other gatherings by themselves. This means that most parents will then be able to have some time to themselves instead of being a taxi service for their children. When teenagers need to get somewhere they expect there parents to take them, but if they are able to drive they can get themselves their and they do not have to bother their parents. The driving age should not be raised so teenagers can become independent and do not have to rely on others.
If the driving age increases then more teenagers will break the law and drive underage. If teenagers have to wait an extra year to be allowed to legally drive, more would have to drive illegally and risk being caught. If a teenager is caught for this and is given a criminal record, it is more likely they will continue to commit crimes. For this reason the driving age should not be raised as it could create more criminals.
The driving age should not be raised because of the independence it gives to teenagers. It is also important part of growing up and helps teenagers to not rely on others. For these reasons the driving age should not be raised.
