What Gambling  Does

Through out our lives many people fall victim to gambling.  The reward of the big money is a significant feature, but with this reward comes risk which is my first point.  Gambling not only affects you but also your family which is my second point.  People try to keep it quiet so their loved ones do not find out.  Some people know the problems that their gambling is causing which make them have mixed emotions and even cause some people to feel suicidal which is my third point.

People who do gamble put every thing on the line.  They mainly think about the rewards and forget about the risks.  ‘I love the thrill of playing’. A quote from the website(www.problemgambling.ca/EN/AboutGamblingandProblemGambling/Pages/TheEffectsOfGambling.aspx). This person obviously is not thinking about the risks and what he could lose.  When people start to lose all their money they start to feel sad and depressed.  I know this because my cousin has had a gambling problem in the past and he had to get treatment because he was so depressed. He also went into deep financial dept which another gamblers could do.

What would happen if your family found out you were wasting all the family saving on gambling. They would by mad, angry and betrayed.  ‘My partner is threatening to leave me if I don’t stop’.  Another quote from(www.problemgambling.ca/EN/AboutGamblingandProblemGambling/Pages/TheEffectsOfGambling.aspx).  They will start asking questions on where the moneys gone.  People also lose interest in family time and make up excuses to go to the pub and gamble.  I am going be late home from work is a common saying people use.  People even have trouble getting to sleep at night because the can not stop thinking about it.  I look at the television and see the ads about gambling and how effects your family and reasons why you should stop which I think is good because it is making people think about what their doing and makes them realise what their putting their families through.

The people who have been gambling for a longish time get mixed feelings about it, they are the main group that get the mixed feelings.  People who win are happy and want to keep going and the people who lose feel down and want to stop but cant.  ‘I am a total loser’, people say things like this when they realise how much money they have lost and some even owe the bank.  When people realise that their in dept they even consider committing suicide.  This shows as what gambling can do to you.  When my cousin stopped gambling he was much happier and now spends more time with his family.

For many people around the world gambling is hard to stop.  It is a risky thing but people don’t think about the risks. When you think about the benefits of stopping there are lots more family time, more money savings and best of all you feel a lot happier. So if you gamble you can get in all sorts of messes.
