Why Alcohol Is Bad For You

Many people find alcohol a good thing. A pain reliever, a stress reliever. Our youth use excessive alcohol drinking (binge drinking) as an excuse to have a good time. But what most drinkers don’t think about are the effects that come with drinking. These include, the health risks, the cost to puurchase alcohol, and also if playing any kind of sport, the effect it can have on that as well.

Now, not everybody is an alcoholic, some people may just be light drinkers, but in the end alcohol effects everybody. According to www.ideaconnection.com/solutions/2019-heath-hazards-of-alcohol-consumption.html, your moderate drinker (1-2 drinks a night) can raise the risk of coronary heart disease in some individuals. Higher levels of alcohol intake (drunk every weekend) can also over time raise the risk for high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, certain cancers, suicides, birth defects, (if pregnant) and overall mortality, heavy drinking of alcohol (drunk every day & night) may cause cirrhosis of the liver, inflammation of the pancreas, damage to the brain and again but more likely, mortality. Also surveys show that on the same site, nearly every chronic alcohol drinker is diagnosed with liver disease, (the most serious Health risk) which kills every 1:4 persons that are effected by this. I believe that maybe drinking once a month is fine, but if your classed under one of these categories, you are putting your health at risk and raising the chances of death.

Clearly the cost in buying alcohol has effected everybodies bank balance, the price of alcohol has skyrocketted to a mass amount. Shopping at the warehouse I found that a 24 pack of budget fizz cost around about $10.00, and at New World. One 2L bottle of just juce cost around $1.50. If you were to buy 10 2L bottles of just juice you it would cost only $15.00 and you would get 20L of healthy fruit juice. Living in Southland everbodies favourites are speights and tui. Shopping online at http://www.liqourland.co.nz/ I found that a 24 pack of speights cost $34.00 and a 24 pack of tui cost $32.00. As beer bottles are only 350 mls, you would only get 8.4L out of a 24 pack. It is very clear to see that alcohol has a negative effect on everybodies pockets, it costs more then double the price to buy fruit juice and you get less then half the quantity.

Alcohol also has the potential to end sports carrers in more than one way. One example of this is Dwight Gooden, a baseball player that won the world series with the Mets in 1986. A parade was thrown for this team and he didn’t show up. He was arrested for abusing his wife and rape, while under the influence of alcohol. This career ended because of the way that alcohol can make you behave, it effects your morals and you have no idea whats wrong or right. Another example is Derek Boogaard, after sustaining concussion and a shoulder injury that ended his season, he was given a year to recover. For his injury he was prescribed oxycodone which can be addictive. He was known to mix this with alcohol and turnt to a heavy alcoholic, 7 months after his injuries he passed due to mixing a powerful drug with alcohol. This career ended because Boogard mixed alcohol with a drug that enhanced the health effects. I think that if you play sports you should keep away from alcohol as it can lead to many different things that could easily destroy your career.
