Driving age

At 16 you can leave school, get a job, own a car, and even own your own house. Having the age to start learning to drive at 16 is way too late.

At 16 most of today’s teenagers are starting to think about jobs or going off to further learning institutes (University S.I.T). At 16 teenagers need to start to rely on themselves to take care of their own life, how are they meant to get to work if their parents simply just don’t have the time and have to run around for a bunch of little things because of things like work, taking care of younger children or are just to stressed with the workload and just need a rest. A simple solution would be to taking a bus or maybe walking or biking, but for teenagers who live in the country or out of town, this isn’t always an option.

One might believe that the age limit increasing from 15 to 16 is a good thing, and that it will put the crash rate on New Zealand roads down, others might believe it won’t help at all, some might also believe that it’s not the age we are learning to drive, and it’s the quality of our learning that is the problem. And that if some more time and effort was put into teaching younger drivers to drive
